Reviewed by Adv. Shailendra Babbar, Seasoned Advocate · Practicing since 31 years🗣️ Simple Explanation
If someone changes important details on a cheque or promissory note without your permission, it's not valid anymore. This protects you from fraud.
💡 Real Life Example
A issues a cheque to B for ₹1000. B, without A's consent, changes it to ₹10,000. The cheque is void, and A doesn't have to pay ₹10,000.
🛡️ KNOW YOUR RIGHTS
- •You don't have to pay on a negotiable instrument if it's been changed without your consent.
- •You can challenge a payment if the instrument was altered without your knowledge.
