🗣️ Simple Explanation

If the Magistrate believes domestic violence happened, they can issue a 'residence order'. This order can allow the abused person to stay in their shared home, or prevent the abuser from entering it.

💡 Real Life Example

A woman, A, is being forced out of her home by her husband, B. The Magistrate can issue a residence order, allowing A to stay in the house and preventing B from entering.

🛡️ KNOW YOUR RIGHTS
  • You can get a court order to stay in your shared home, even if the abuser owns it.
  • The court can prevent the abuser from entering your home.
  • The court can order the abuser to provide alternative accommodation.
